Community Voices – Interviews
Alongside the community-wide survey and two public workshops, we also carried out a series of in-depth interviews with people who know Quadra Island well. These conversations add depth and context to the numbers and workshop notes, helping us understand the “why” behind the data and the history behind key issues.
We spoke with a range of community members, including local business owners, service providers, volunteers, and other knowledge holders who bring lived and professional experience from different parts of the island. Interviews explored:
- How people see Quadra changing over time
- Hopes and concerns about housing, services, and the local economy
- Ideas for strengthening year-round livelihoods and community well-being
- Opportunities and cautions around tourism, recreation, and other sectors
- What it would take to turn good ideas into action

Interview findings are reported in themes, not as individual stories. To protect privacy, comments are anonymized and not linked to specific people or organizations. Instead, we highlight patterns, tensions, and practical insights that can guide planning and support decision-making.
Together with the survey and workshop results, these interviews help ensure that the Economic Diversification Roadmap is grounded in real experiences, local knowledge, and the values people want to see reflected in Quadra Island’s future.
